The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) announced the official rollout of the HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) course delivery model beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Designed to eliminate traditional barriers to higher education, this instructional approach gives students unprecedented control over how and where they participate in their coursework.
The term HyFlex merges the words Hybrid and Flexible. Hybrid: Blends traditional face-to-face instruction with online learning environments. Flexible: Allows students to choose their mode of participation on a session-by-session or week-by-week basis depending on their individual schedules, work shifts, or family needs. This type of course is also known as “blended.”
Under the HyFlex model, students enrolled in a single course have the freedom to switch seamlessly between three learning modalities: In-Person: Attending live, face-to-face classes on the UACCB campus. Synchronous Online: Participating in live class sessions remotely via video stream. Asynchronous Online: Completing coursework, viewing recorded lectures, and engaging in discussions online on their own schedule.
This flexible learning push coincides with UACCB's expanded academic partnership with the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM), which launched a campus-within-a-campus model at UACCB starting Fall 2026. Borrowing momentum from UAM's degree pathways at UACCB, UACCB students will be able to pursue four-year bachelor's degrees right in Batesville, benefiting from both HyFlex formats and a seamless local transfer option.
“Our goal is to meet students where they are and make it easier for them to succeed,” said Blayne Stewart, Dean of Learning and Communications at UACCB. “Students have jobs, families, and responsibilities outside the classroom, and HyFlex gives them more flexibility in how they attend and stay engaged in their courses. They can be in the classroom, join live from another location, or complete coursework asynchronously when that works best for them. When you combine that flexibility with UAM programs available right here on our campus, we’re creating more ways for students in our community to continue their education without having to put the rest of their lives on hold.”
