Payroll Services Specialist
The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville is seeking a Payroll Services Specialist. The Payroll Services Specialist is responsible for the production and processing of regular and supplemental employee payrolls. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
This position will ensure that all UACCB employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner and that UACCB remains in compliance with all payroll taxation requirements; management of payroll compliance; report preparation and submission; coordination of payroll processing with Colleague software; and service the faculty, staff, and student workers by ensuring responses to questions and concerns are handled in a timely manner. The payroll services specialist must ensure that all federal, state, and other regulations and policy changes are adhered to in order to avoid penalties and to see that the campus community is serviced effectively and efficiently.
Organize and complete four semi-monthly payrolls – schedules, processing steps, documentation methods; prepare faculty and staff payroll accurately and timely; prepare direct deposit files; distribute payroll checks/direct deposit statements; prepare and process payroll deductions from paychecks including pensions, insurances, and other miscellaneous deductions; research and resolve payroll problems and discrepancies; maintain leave balances for sick, annual, LWOP, FMLA, etc.; determine payroll calendars and run schedules with Colleague payroll system; accept and process wage assignments, levies and child support payments; perform monthly and cumulative reconciliation of payroll reports to general ledger and initiate adjusting entries; process payroll adjustments, i.e. LWOP, mid-year hires, lump sum payouts; prepare and analyze reports required by law, benefit agencies, independent auditors, UACCB policies and contracts; answer inquiries and provide information; formulate and document payroll procedures; review and test payroll software releases with the information technology department; and assist business office staff as needed.
Associate’s degree in business or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and payroll experience; three years of experience processing automated payroll; experience in higher education payroll preferred; experience handling confidential information; ability to use professional judgement and to implement technology into payroll process.
