Counselor/Student Advisor: The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) seeks a Counselor/Student Advisor for the Career Pathways Initiative. The Career Pathways Initiative (CPI) provides funding for two-year colleges to develop career pathways programs that assist Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)-eligible adults in earning a marketable, educational credential for immediate entry into a high demand occupation. This provisional position is funded by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services and administered through the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and UACCB.
Job Summary: The Counselor/Student Advisor provides support to students enrolled in the Career Pathways Initiative, which may include services such as advising, mentoring, career assessment, tracking individual development plans and referring other resources. The position will also require recruitment, intake, verification and record keeping.
Responsibilities: The Counselor/Student Advisor serves as the student support system contact, advisor and tracks student progress. Incumbent will collaborate with other UACCB personnel to provide wrap-around assistance that ensures student retention and completion; counsel students concerning academic and career interests; inform students with special needs of campus services; coordinate workshops/speakers according to student needs and keep abreast of advising trends.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with three years related experience. Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience working within Career Pathway’s programs, academic advising, coaching/mentoring, personal counseling and/or employment services. Candidates who have been successful in overcoming barriers similar to CPI-eligible students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Salary: $32,000 plus an excellent fringe benefits package that includes health care insurance and retirement.
