Dr. Tony Garrett named Library Director
BATESVILLE - Tony Garrett has been selected as the new Library Director at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Formally the Head of Reference and Access Services at Troy Campus Library, Troy University, Dr. Garrett earned his Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University and his Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Dr. Garrett and his wife, previously spent twenty-five years living in Springfield, Missouri, and are excited to be back in the Ozarks.
Dr. Brian Shonk, Vice Chancellor of Academics, said, "We are thrilled to have someone of Dr. Garrett's caliber as our new Library Director. His educational background and years of experience working in academic libraries will help create a better learning experience for students, faculty, and the community. We are particularly excited about his enthusiasm for library services and his commitment to providing, in his words, ‘customer service’ to our 'guests.' We welcome Dr. Garrett to the UACCB team."
When asked about changes to the UACCB Row Johns Library, Dr. Garrett said, "I want the library to be guest oriented. The library needs to be a companion to faculty to assist with teaching students. The information accessibility will be an extension of the classroom. The library is open to the public during its regular times." Inter-library loans have already been added back to the services the library offers and other services will be available soon.
The Library staff continues to accommodate the needs of students, faculty, staff, and community guests for this area in Arkansas. More materials and resources are constantly being added to the Library collection to aid in research for classes or personal enrichment. Individual and group instruction sessions are available. Extended hours have been added to increase availability to all guests. Access to study rooms for group or individuals, a computer lab, and multiple Library services (such as remote access databases and the online catalog, OPAC) are provided for convenience to everyone.
