Comm Ed Child Care

To help meet the growing needs for quality childcare in its service area, UACCB hosts free child-care courses that are underwritten by the Childcare Orientation Training program of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Students must pre-register at least 10 days in advance. Class dates and times may be viewed at COMM ED Classes. Childcare Orientation Training (CCOT)

This 10-hour course is designed for childcare employees who do not have a Child Development Associate credential or other childcare provider license. Topics include childcare as a profession, child growth and development, handling emergencies, guidance and behavior management, and more. Ella Branscum, instructor.

Pre-K Literacy Learning in Arkansas (Pre-K ELLA)

This class focuses on the behaviors, skills, and concepts that are part of emerging literacy in preschool children designed for early childhood professionals. Topics covered include: an overview of Pre-K ELLA, social and emotional development, learning environments, language development, phonological awareness, the role of play, dramatic play, read-alouds, poetry, nursery rhymes and finger plays, storytelling, shared reading, writing, environmental print, learning about letters, sounds and words, observations and assessment, and family literacy. Mindy Shaw, instructor. Class is limited to 25 participants. Class offered in the fall and spring.

Arkansas Early Childhood Education (AECE)
Framework Handbook for Three and Four Year-Old Children

This 45 hour course was designed to train early childhood professionals in the use of the AECE Framework Handbook and consists of three 15-hour courses that may be taken in any order. Class 1: An Introduction. Class 2: Curriculum Planning and Activities. Class 3: Observation and Assessment. Mindy Shaw, instructor.

Family Child Care Provider (FCCP)

Family Child Care Provider (FCCP) is a basic orientation training for family child care providers. It is required for newly licensed and registered providers within the first six months of being licensed or registered. It is also useful for providers who would like a refresher course in the basics of family child care. Jo Battle and Debbie Mize, instructors.

Investigating, Discovering, and Exploring: Math and Science for Young Children (INDEX)

The main goal of INDEX training is to help early childhood professionals understand that everyone can be a scientist, identify the skills and concepts that can be used to investigate the world and understand the importance of in-depth investigations of meaningful topics over time. Class includes 30 hours of FREE specialized training for teachers of three and four year olds. Mindy Shaw, instructor.

Pre-K Social-Emotional Learning (Pre-K SEL)

Pre-K Social-Emotional Learning (Pre-K SEL) provides teachers of three- to five-year-olds knowledge and skills to build warm relationships with children, parents and co-workers; create positive and productive classroom climates; prevent challenging behavior; manage disruptive behavior and teach children new skills so they enter kindergarten ready to learn.
