Advising

Academic advisors offer guidance to students about academic and related issues while they are in college. UACCB has a holistic approach to academic advising. All advisors assist students with the following:

  • Encouraging students to be responsible for their decisions, success and progress
  • Choosing appropriate courses each semester that will meet the student's degree requirements
  • Dropping and adding classes
  • Discuss transfer requirements
  • Provide information about campus services and resources
  • Help the student to set realistic goals

Students are assigned an academic advisor during the admissions process. All first-time college students (full or part-time) and those with less than 12 college credits will be assigned to a First Year Experience (FYE) advisor. Students with 12 or more college credits will be assigned to an academic advisor in the program area most closely related to a student's major field of study.

Students with an FYE advisor will receive advising through the FYE program during their first semester of college. They will then meet with an FYE advsior at the end of their first semester in order to be assigned to an advisor in the degree area they are working towards.
