How can these classes enhance my life?
Many employers today require a GED or high school diploma. By earning your
GED diploma through the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville
Adult Education Program, you may have more opportunities for employment.
A GED or high school diploma is also a requirement for entrance into most colleges.
The Adult Education Program can help you take the first step in entering college.
The basic math, reading, and writing classes
are designed to help improve skills for employment, preparation for college,
or simply day-to-day activities.

What are ESL Classes?
ESL stands for English as a Second Language. These classes are for non-English
speaking students. They are designed to instruct foreign students in written
and spoken English. Lessons are arranged around everyday subjects that can
be of immediate benefit to the students.
ESL classes meet at various times. Contact the Adult Education Department for
more information.

How are classes arranged?
Most classes are informal with small group instruction. Instructors develop
an individual education plan for each student. In this way, each student only
works on areas that are weak to him/her.
GED preparation classes cover math, writing, social studies, science and literature.

Who can enroll?
The only enrollment requirement is that students must be at least 18 years
of age. Sixteen and Seventeen year old students must meet certain requirements and should contact the Director of Adult Education for more information.

How much does it cost?
Classes are provided free of charge to the public. The only cost to the individual
is time and effort.

When are classes offered?
During the school year, day classes are available Monday through Friday from
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 8:30
p.m. Students may set their own schedules with times
that are convenient for them.
The summer schedule has somewhat reduced hours. Call or e-mail the Adult Education
Office for those times and days.

When can I enroll?
Students may enroll in classes at any time throughout the year just by stopping
by UACCB's Adult Education Department.

How long do I have to attend classes?
Students can attend classes until their goals are met whether by receiving
a GED diploma or by simply improving skills to their satisfaction level.

What are the testing procedures for the GED test?
When a student first enters the Adult Education Program, he/she is given the
TABE test which measures his/her grade level in reading, math and language.
An individual instruction plan is developed based on the results of this test.
Once a student demonstrates the skills necessary to pass the GED test, he/she
is given a practice GED test. Students must pass this test in order to be eligible
to take the official GED test which is administered weekly.
The state of Arkansas does not charge a fee for the GED test, but it does require
the two pre-tests mentioned above.

Is there a graduation ceremony for GED graduates?
There is a formal graduation ceremony each year in May. UACCB offers a full-tuition
scholarship to a qualified GED graduate during the May ceremony. Contact UACCB
for scholarship criteria.
