UACCB receives positive report from HLC
BATESVILLE – The University
of Arkansas Community College at Batesville has
learned that a progress report focusing on assessment of student learning has
been reviewed and accepted by The Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of
the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
UACCB received continued
accreditation from the Commission in 2003 but had to submit a progress report by
Apr. 1, 2006. Initial accreditation to
offer associate level degrees was awarded to UACCB in August 1998.
In a letter from the Commission,
it is noted that several organizational changes have impacted and enhanced the
assessment of student learning.
“The new Chancellor has
also incorporated into the strategic plan of the institution two goals that
have had significant and positive impact on assessment of student learning,”
the letter stated. “The first is
Brain-Based Learning, which carries important assessment tools with it and the
second is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Agreed upon, Realistic, Time-bound)
goals that are aligned with indicators of student success.”
The letter goes on to say,
“The institution has placed great emphasis on the refinement of their
assessment program since the last comprehensive visit and has been very
responsive to the findings of the team.”
