BATESVILLE - The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville has named five recipients of the chancellor's scholarship and one academic excellence scholarship recipient, announced Melissa Sisco, director of Financial Aid.
Chancellor's scholarship recipients are Preston Bates of Poughkeepsie, Emily Boatman of Searcy, Tyler Scott Booth of Poughkeepsie, Cyndal Danielle Burns of Salem and Carisa Paige Hutchison of Batesville.
Cynthia Jones of Sidney has been named an academic excellence scholarship recipient.
Bates graduated from Cave City High School. He is the son of Larry and Beverly Bates. He plans to seek an associate's degree in business. He said he chose UACCB because he felt the college would provide him a good education at an affordable price.
Boatman graduated from Pangburn High School. She is the daughter of Dalton and Lisa Boatman. She plans to pursue a degree in early childhood education. "The friendliness of the staff and students and the atmosphere of the campus made me feel comfortable," she said.
Booth graduated from Cave City High School. He is the son of Reena Jones. He plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
Burns graduated from Melbourne High School She is the daughter of Bob and Kathy Burns. She plans to seek an associate of arts degree. "It's close to home," she said when asked what influenced her decision to attend UACCB. "I like Batesville and I got a really good scholarship from UACCB."
Hutchison graduated from Batesville High School. She is the daughter of Allen and Gay Hutchison. She plans to seek a degree in business. "I'm interested in staying in the Batesville community a little longer," she said. "UACCB provides the best economic choice for me."
Jones graduated from Cave City High School. She is the daughter of Karol Perkey. She plans to pursue a degree in psychology. "It is close to home and meets my financial needs," she said. "I've heard great things about UACCB."
The chancellor's scholarship is awarded to students with a composite ACT score of 27 or higher. It provides in-state tuition (up to 15 hours), a $250 stipend and free use of text books each semester.
The scholarship is renewable for three consecutive semesters for those students completing at least 12 credit hours each semester with a 3.00 grade point average after the first semester and a 3.25 GPA after the second and third semesters.
The academic excellence scholarship is awarded to students with a composite ACT score of 25 or higher. It provides in-state tuition (up to 15 credit hours) and a $250 stipend each semester.
