Lyle LaneBATESVILLE - Lyle Lane has been hired as a new aviation maintenance instructor for the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville's Doyle "Rog" Rogers, Jr., Aviation Maintenance program.

"We are really grateful that we have the Department of Labor aviation grant funds to support our aviation maintenance program and this full-time, provisional position," said Kathleen McNamee, chair of the division of community and technical education. "Lyle (Lane) comes to us with experience in instruction and multiple certifications, including that of an airframe and powerplant mechanic. His vast real-world experience in the area of aviation will provide a broad base of knowledge for classroom instruction and learning – not just technical jargon straight out of a textbook."

Lane has worked 31 years in the aviation industry "doing everything from maintenance of corporate and general aviation aircraft to working for Mitsubishi Aircraft as an assembler and inspector for the Mitsubishi factory in San Angelo, Texas."
In addition Lane has worked as an aviation maintenance instructor for South Arkansas University in Camden and for the past 9 years has been employed as the director of maintenance for Aircraft Investments in Batesville.  He also taught as adjunct faculty at UACCB throughout the past year.

"I came to Batesville originally on a contract to AIRPRO Flight Services," Lane said. "I am proud to be teaching at UACCB, a growing and progressive school that truly fosters learning in its students. I plan to continue my education while at the same time helping the UACCB program to grow and encouraging students to achieve their goals of obtaining their AMT certification. My motto is 'A day you don't learn anything new is a wasted day.'"

Lane was born in Jacksonville, FL, but lived in Pensacola and Mobile for the first 18 years of his life. After a short stint in the Air Force, Lane said he "traveled around the US and ended up in Casper, WY, where I met and married the love of my life - Linda Jensen. We have moved about quite a lot, but ended up in Arkansas in 1988 with our daughter, Teri. Both Linda and Teri are enrolled at UACCB and Teri works part-time in the Grill.

Lane's hobbies include flying and computers. He is a member of the society of mechanical engineers and the experimental aircraft association.
