Renaissance Days 2009 planned for Friday, Saturday
BATESVILLE - The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville's annual Renaissance Days start Friday with area high school competitions. This year's theme is Arts and Crafts in the Renaissance Marketplace. Area high schools will compete in the following: quiz bowl, carving contest, costume contest, banner contest, scavenger hunt, tug o' war and a cooking contest. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 2:15 p.m.
Friday will conclude with an evening performance. The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Independence Hall and will feature the Ladies of the Salty Kiss Comedy Troupe.
Saturday's activities begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m. Activities will include horse rides, prizes, a bounce house, contests, dancing, battles, sword fighters, archers, music crafts, vendors and comedy.
Demonstrations by the Society for Creative Anachronism will include renaissance music and dance, castle life, hammered dulcimer, sword fighters, archery and may pole.
Concessions will be available both days and will include turkey legs, stews, pizza, drinks, desserts and side.
